Despite knowing that most of his Spotify listeners hail from Malaysia, English singer Henry Moodie found himself unprepared for the immense support he received during his recent performance in Kuala Lumpur.

Last Sunday (May 5), Moodie held a free show at The Exchange TRX, where he delivered a captivating performance that included his smash hit Drunk Text and a mashup of Taylor Swift’s Blank Space with One Direction’s Night Changes.

The scene was nothing short of electric, with thousands of fans flocking to the mall to catch the glimpse of the breakout star.

Reflecting on the experience in a roundtable interview joined by StarLifestyle, Moodie, 20, expressed gratitude for the unexpected turnout.

“Everyone here has been so nice, the service and everyone at the show on Sunday was just lovely, and I'm really happy to come here because people really show me their support here,” he said.

The Beat Up Car singer continued: “We anticipated a crowd but we could’ve never assumed it was going to be that big. I felt really bad for the people who couldn’t see me.

“We just didn’t think that many people would turn up, but I’m so happy everyone showed up and was able to connect with my music.”

Having enjoyed his brief stay in Malaysia, where he tried the durian and visited the Petronas Twin Towers, Moodie – who boasts over 6.2 million followers on TikTok – expressed interest in returning in the future.

Prior to his Malaysia stopover, Moodie staged a similar live performance in the Philippines. He is set to perform in Jakarta today.

Explaining why his decision to hold free shows instead of big gigs, Moodie said it’s a token of gratitude to his supporters.

“I feel like it’s so important to actually see people in real life and say thank you.

“That’s the reason why I’m doing these shows, because I want to see everyone in real life and express my gratitude to everyone for their support,” he said.
