Lucky student wins scholarship
THE American Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) Malaysia has awarded Ong Sue Ling the AMCHAM-MACEE scholarship for study in the United States.
Sue Ling is the sixth Malaysian recipient of this award, which is sponsored by AMCHAM Malaysia and administered by the Malaysian American Commission on Educational Exchange (MACEE).
Sue Ling, who hails from Klang, received the scholarship award from US ambassador to Malaysia Christopher J. LaFleur and President of AMCHAM Malaysia in Kuala Lumpur Vince Leusner.
“I believe that an American education, with its emphasis on broad-based training, can better prepare students such as Sue Ling for an increasingly global economy.

“On one hand, Sue Ling will gain exposure to the US culture and lifestyle; on the other, she can help spread the word about Malaysia. By helping to promote the Malaysian brand overseas, Sue Ling can indirectly help to attract more foreign direct investment to Malaysia,” added Leusner.
AMCHAM created the scholarship endowment programme in 1998 to benefit deserving Malaysian students seeking to pursue their undergraduate studies in the US.
The AMCHAM-MACEE Scholarship annually awards a US$20,000 (RM73,587) scholarship which covers four years of undergraduate study in the US.
Sue Ling was selected from a list of extremely competitive candidates recommended by MACEE. She will pursue a degree in Health Sciences in Portland State University in Oregon.
