Foundation for medical degree

HELP University College (HELP) has introduced a Foundation in Science programme leading to a medical degree in Russia.

The programme is conducted by the HELP Matriculation Centre (HMC) for SPM/O-Levels students.

The programme will equip students with the qualifications required for entry into three Russian medical institutions – Moscow Medical Academy, Nizhny Novgorod State Medical Academy and Volgograd State Medical University.

To be admitted for the medical degree in the three universities, a student must have a minimum of five credits in SPM (B4 in at least four of the five subjects: Mathematics, Additional Mathematics, Biology, Chemistry and Physics) and an average score of distinction in the foundation programme.

“The programme is recognised by the National Accreditation Board (LAN),” said HMC head Dhanesh Balakrishnan.

School leavers who complete the programme will receive a recognised Foundation certificate that will enable them to pursue various undergraduate degrees, including a medical degree.

The MoU between HELP and Russian Resources Sdn Bhd was signed recently.

Russian Resources has been allocated 60 places in the three universities.

Students will spend a year pursuing the Foundation in Science programme at HELP and six years at the Russian universities.

The total course fee for the six years ranges from RM100,000 to RM200,000 at the three medical universities.

The programme also provides various pathways for students to pursue Pharmacy, Engineering, Biotechnology and other science-related degrees.

Students will be assessed by in-class assessments and assignments. Participation in class, oral tests, computer-based examinations or project presentations all form part of the overall assessment structure.

The lecturers in the programme have an important task of changing the perception of students and helping them explore their self-potential.

To motivate the students, HMC also offers scholarships for students who achieve excellent results in SPM.
