Preparations underway for games
ASK any Malaysian student studying in the United Kingdom and Ireland about Nottingham and they will mention the Nottingham Malaysian Games, more fondly known as the Malaysian Games.
The games have traditionally been organised to inculcate healthy sportsmanship and nurture interaction among Malaysian students in the United Kingdom and Ireland.
About 50 universities are expected to send their representatives to the games this year. The games include five-a-side football, netball, volleyball, basketball, table tennis, badminton, squash, lightning chess and lightning snooker.
Nottingham Malaysian Society president Muhammad Fairuz Mohamad Nasir says the games reflect unity among Malaysians even on foreign soil.
‘This isn't isn’t just an event for Malaysian students to display their sporting skills. It also reflects the strong unity among Malaysians no matter where they are,” he said.
The society has begun preparations for the upcoming games. Medals, trophies, banners, T-shirts, mineral water bottles, first-aid kits, sporting equipment and food for volunteers will have to be sorted out.
Invitations have been sent to the Deputy Prime Minister, Education Minister and the Higher Education Minister.
The games will be held on Dec 1. For further details on the event, contact the society at
