Be grateful to teachers
IT IS disheartening to read how some parents blame teachers and schools for organising extra classes during schooldays as stated in “
Schoolchildren are not zombies” (StarEducation, April 27).
Not all students and pupils can afford to pay for private tuition and for some, extra classes held in school are the only way they can benefit from such help.
Teachers do try to finish the syllabus during school hours.
Sometimes it is impossible to complete the lessons on time when there are many subtopics. That’s the reason schools have extra classes.
“Disgusted” suggested that schools have extra classes during the weekends for the weak students.
How many parents are willing to sacrifice their weekends shuttling their children to and from school?
Are the students willing to turn up on weekends?
Don’t blame schools or teachers if a child is stressed out or pressured. Some parents, too, are pressuring their children to excel academically.
We are not “killing” your children. We are merely doing our best to nurture them.
Please stop pointing fingers at the Education Ministry. There are many dedicated teachers who have sacrificed a lot for your children. Please be grateful.
