A touch of dazzle and design
THIS year’s Hari Raya (Eid Mubarak) celebrations saw Raffles College of Higher Education collaborating with The Intermark on designing the mall’s interior decor.
The college’s Visual Merchandising course lecturer Tereneh Mosley said that the focus of the design was to celebrate Hari Raya as an Islamic celebration with the theme “The Light and Reflection of Eid Mubarak”.
“As a lecturer, I was interested in giving the students a chance to have a ‘real world’ experience. I want them to begin to understand the process of developing and implementing ideas in a public setting,” said Mosley.
Seven teams and 38 students from the college’s Advance Diploma in Fashion Marketing and Management took part in the project that saw each team submiting their design assignments and themes.
The winning team, comprising Veronica Lew Sue Shuen, Natasya Yazmeen Freddy Azman, Sharifah Sarah Amirah Syed Kamal, Loi Hui Ming, Lau Xin Ann, Jacelyn Khoo I-Ling and Foo Aun Ha, designed the decor in 10 days.
Simplicity: Minimal decor with songket motifs were chosen to uphold The Intermark’s classic architectural interior. The Intermark was decorated with an Arabesque light sculpture centrepiece with the message “Eid Mubarak” along with patterns and graphic arts of modern songket that complimented the lavish interior of the mall.
Various materials including laminated repeating geometric modern songket, wood, aluminium acrylic, mixed media perspex and lighting were used to create the atmosphere.
“There wasn’t a specific inspiration to our theme but we played around with a few important elements that we wanted: songket and wood carvings,” said Veronica.
In-house retail boutique, PU3, provided its Raya collection for mannequin display.
