Wee, Gwo Burne to contest on PKR ticket
By LOH FOON FONG and FLORENCE A. SAMY
PETALING JAYA: PKR sprung a few surprises in the party's candidate line-up on Friday. On the parliamentary seats list were lawyer Wee Choo Keong as well as Loh Gwo Burne, the man behind the taping of the controversial Datuk V.K. Lingam video clip.
Malaysian Democratic Party secretary-general Wee had four days ago demanded DAP make way for the MDP to contest in the Bukit Bintang parliamentary seat. On Friday, PKR announced that Wee would be contesting in Wangsa Maju.
Wee was recently in the media when he represented Lingam's brother V. Thirunama Karasu at the Royal Commission of Inquiry into the controversial video clip.
Loh will be contesting against MCA's Datuk Lee Hwa Beng for the Kelana Jaya seat.
Also on PKR's list was Nurul Izzah Anwar, daughter of PKR de facto leader Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, who will contest the Lembah Pantai parliamentary seat. She will face BN's Datuk Seri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil who will be defending her seat.
PKR president Datin Seri Dr Wan Azizah Ismail, who is also Nurul Izzah's mother, is to defend her Permatang Pauh parliamentary seat.
PKR secretary-general Tan Sri Khalid Ibrahim will contest the Bandar Tun Razak parliamentary seat and Ijok state seat while the party's vice-president Azmin Ali will contest the Gombak parliamentary seat.
The party's vice-president Sivarasa Rasiah, who lost to Datuk Donald Lim Siang Chai (Petaling Jaya Selatan) in the 2004 general election, will now contest the Subang parliamentary seat.
MTUC president Syed Shahir Syed Mohamud will be contesting for the Pandan seat.
Among the other main candidates competing for parliamentary seats are PKR treasurer William Leong (Selayang), information chief Tian Chua (Batu), Wanita chief Zuraidah Kamaruddin (Ampang) and youth chairman Shamsul Iskandar Md Akin (Dungun).
