Stress-inducing ‘Stress-free 40’
I AM a regular listener of the radio station Light ‘n’ Easy and of late, I have become increasingly irked by its constant use (or rather, misuse and abuse) of the terms “stress-free 40”, “uninterrupted” and “non-stop”.
The first is an attempt to allude to having 40 minutes in an hour devoted to music without any commercials being aired. However, in the next sentence, an announcer would say “... thanks to (name of an Australian chain store)”. How oxymoronic AND moronic can you get?
A deejay would describe the programme as playing “uninterrupted music” after telling what song has just been played and what song awaits listeners next. The term “non-stop music” is similarly bandied about between songs.
Surely, the people on this radio station must know the dictionary definitions of the terms referred to above. Please stop the misuse and abuse of these terms.
