Bright outlook
STACY Lewis’ victory at the Mobile Bay LPGA Classic at Stockton Seaview Hotel & Golf Club in Galloway, New Jersey, last weekend was her second this season and third official title on the LPGA Tour.
Lewis has been the hottest player in the ladies’ game over the past three months or so, and she went into this week’s second Major of the season, the Wegmans LPGA Championship, as one of the in form players.
The player who suffered from a chronic back ailment when young sprung to third in the world rankings on the back of her success at the Mobile Bay event.
Such has been Lewis’ form that her two wins came in the last two tournaments that she played in. Her reward has also been a swift elevation up the money list where she has moved to fifth.
But Lewis’ good form has not really been consigned to just the recent past. She has played well since winning her first Major title – and first LPGA event – the 2011 Kraft Nabisco Championship. Subsequent to that she finished in a tie for sixth at the 2011 LPGA Championship, rounded off her season with a tie for 11th spot at the Women’s British Open and was tied for fourth in her defense of the LPGA Championship in April.
