Classic under way
THE Carlsberg Golf Classic, or fondly known as the Ultimate Challenge, got off to a rousing start at Horizon Hills Golf & Country Club in Johor.
The gross and nett winners from Horizon Hills, Azmi Akob (6) and Song Yan Geun (18), not only took home trophies and a Panasonic TV set each, but also qualified for the national final that will be played in December at Saujana Golf & Country Club. Azmi shot a 74 gross, while Song rolled in a 65 nett.
The event played at Tanjung Puteri Golf Resort in Johor saw Zulkafar Jemaat, 49, steal the limelight in the gross category after firing a score of 72.

“I’m happy to have qualified for the national final and will give the trophy a shot again.”
Meanwhile, the nett category was won by Albert Lim (18) after scoring 65 nett.
Lim has been participating in the Carlsberg Classic events for the past four years, but this was special for him as it was the first time that he won the nett category at Tanjung Puteri.
From Tanjung Puteri the Carlsberg Classic moved to KRTU Butterwoth, Kelab Golf Titiwangsa PDRM, Palm Garden Golf Club, Templer Park Country Club, Ayer Keroh Country Club and Kluang Country Club.
“I would like to thank Templer Park Country Club for hosting the sixth preliminary leg,” said Carlsberg’s senior key account manager Ravindran. “I saw many happy faces there and the golfers went home happy with their prizes.
“A special thank you is extended to our sponsors, namely Hap Seng Land, Hap Seng Star, Panasonic, Cozzia, FootJoy, Titoni, Liberty Golf Services, ParGolf, Kordel’s, Gatorade and Sunplay in making the event a success.”
