Getting the goodies

Want to get your hands on those Harry Potter premiums we’ve been talking about? Read the following carefully!

HERE’S the password (see pic above)! Did you guess the two words? Okay, now that the fun’s over, let’s get down to brass tacks: what exactly do you need to do to get your paws on the Harry Potter goodies that Kinokuniya Bookstores is offering on July 21 with the release of the final book, Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows?

First, remember the password that will get you past the Fat Lady guarding the entrance to the store in Suria KLCC!

Second, get to the mall early because you have to be among the first 13 people to queue up to even have a chance to recite the password.

The first three people in line who correctly whisper the password when asked will receive, free, a copy of Deathly Hallows that’s worth RM235 because it has author J.K. Rowling’s signature printed on the cover. The next 10 people who get the password right will receive the normal editions of Deathly Hallows, free.

Now, don’t storm the doors at some ridiculous hour like 3am – Suria KLCC won’t be open. And don’t try to stay overnight inside the mall either, as that’s strictly not allowed.

When to get there and what to do when you do get there? Just follow these steps:

1: The shopping centre will open the following entrances (and its car park) only at 5am. If you’re driving, park, then enter the mall via Centre Court and take the elevator near Topshop, or enter through Park Mall and take the elevator near the KFC restaurant; these will be the only two elevators working before normal business hours.

If you’re not driving, take the KLCC Park entrance to get into the mall.

2: Once inside, make your way to the Centre Court’s third floor (Kinokuniya is on the fourth floor, but don’t go there yet!) and line up in the TGV cinema area. The bookstore’s staff will be on hand to identify the first 13 people and take them, in the correct order, to the fourth floor. Here’s hoping you don’t freeze and forget the password at this stage....

So, what happens if you arrive and find a horde of people waiting before you? Chill, don’t have hysterics, because there will be a special little something for those not-so-early birds, too: unique goose- and peacock-feather quill pens will be given out with each copy of Deathly Hallows sold; stocks are limited, though, so it’s first come, first served, and strictly one quill per copy.

Best of all, StarMag and Kinokuniya is offering a 30% discount on the title, on July 21 only, as you can see from the coupon on this page. But, as the coupon states, “only while stocks last”, so be there early before all the copies fly off the shelves!

On launch day, those who pre-order the book with the bookshop will also get Deathly Hallows at a 30% discount; from July 22 onwards, though, pre-ordered books will be available at a 25% discount. And for those who turn up on July 21 without pre-ordering or even without StarMag’s coupon, there is still something for you: a 20% discount on all seven Potter titles. Don’t say we never did anything for you....

Note that Kinokuniya’s doors will open only at 6.30am and that the books cannot be sold until 7.01am. No amount of badgering will get you a copy earlier than that because Ms Rowling herself has decreed the time of release – and backed up the decree with a large number of very stern lawyers!
