A tailored prescription for your skin goes a long way in giving better results.
JUST like how someone gets a prescription from a doctor when they’re not feeling well, you can now get a full prescription for your skin problem from Perricone MD.
The cosmeceutical brand has come up with a new range of products – divided into four “families” – for different skin conditions.
The new formulation is said to contain more concentrated ingredients for instant results and benefits.
For skin woes: Karra Beck, Perricone MD international expert, with the latest range of products – the RX1 to RX4. “We have upgraded some of the formulation to be more powerful and also more sensorial to use,” said Karra Beck, Perricone MD international expert, who was in Kuala Lumpur recently.
In the range, founder Dr Nicholas Perricone has increased the level of DMAE (dimethylaminoethanol), his signature patented ingredient, in the products.
DMAE is believed to stimulate the skin, to firm and tone the jaw line contours.
Another key ingredient is an anti-oxidant called Alpha Lipoic Acid (ALA), which is 400 times stronger than vitamins A, C and E. ALA is said to regenerate skin to minimise pores and smooth surface imperfection.
Also in the formula is Vitamin C ester, more stable than regular Vitamin C and a good antioxidant believed to lighten dark spots.
The first family of products, RX1 Prevent, targets skin that is sensitive and easily irritated. Ingredients such as olive oil polyphenols, tocotrienols and DMAE help prevent wrinkles and damage from free radicals.
RX2 Correct is for skin that shows early signs of ageing, enlarged pores, fine lines, discoloration, dullness, scarring, hyperpigmentation or puffiness.
The third group, RX3 Repair, is recommended for skin that has suffered a lot of sun damage or is sagging, tired and needs a lift.
It helps treat more advanced signs of ageing such as deep wrinkles and lines, and is also ideal for correcting brown spots.
The last group, RX4 Restore, is for skin that needs maximum rejuvenation. It is claimed to increase firmness, radiance, skin resilience and hydration, and reduce wrinkles.
“RX4 contains our most sophisticated neuropeptides and is our anti-ageing range,” said Beck.
She added that the main skin problems faced by Asian women are pigmentation, and lack of radiance and hydration.
One of the products that targets pigmentation in the range is Pigment Corrective. It contains a new ingredient called pycnogenol, an antioxidant that inhibits melanin production in skin.
“It’s great for brightening and prevention of pigmentation, and is suitable for all skin types,” said Beck.
Meanwhile, the star product in the range is the Advanced Face Firming Activator, said to produce results in three to four days by reducing pore size and puffiness, and improving radiance.
The new range features a contemporary look and is more eco-friendly as it uses paper packaging, and paraben is removed from the formulas. The paper cartons are also said to be fully recyclable, manufactured using wind power and printed in a carbon neutral facility.
Staying true to his philosophy that good skin always starts with a healthy diet and the best skincare, Dr Perricone has introduced a special, three-day facelift diet.
“The three-day diet is like an intensive session to kickstart the effects and a chance to see the power of food,” said Beck.
It emphasises the power of proteins, benefits of olive oil and advocates less carbohydrates and sugar.
Protein repairs cells; healthy cells slow down the ageing process. Dr Perricone recommends that one always eats the protein first at every meal to avoid a high glycemic (blood sugar) response.
Extra virgin olive oil, in addition to being beneficial to skin, also has health benefits. It lowers bad cholesterol, raises good cholesterol, improves digestion and stimulates bone growth, which are all related to anti-ageing.
The last part of the diet is about reducing carbohydrates and sugar intake.
Sugar in all forms is extremely damaging to the skin and all organ systems. Sugar and foods that rapidly convert to sugar when eaten cause sudden spikes in blood sugar levels, resulting in the release of insulin into the blood stream. This then causes us to store, rather than burn, fat.
