Music is for everyone
I DO not know whether I was amused or annoyed with the young lady who wrote Weird, but so dad (Vestibule, Your Say, StarMag, Nov 1), but one thing is for sure – I do not agree with her views.
I am a 54 year-old dad with a 12 year-old son and we share many interests, like his love for Bionicle, Sangokuden and music. We listen to Akon, BEP, JT and all those modern artistes, as well as oldies like Cliff Richard.
My son approves of my love for the modern songs. In fact, whenever he downloads a new song he will play it for me when I’m free. We enjoy listening to them together.
My current ringtones are Don’t trust Me for calls and Diva for messages. My colleagues and friends accept them. In fact, some even ask me to copy the songs for them.
Some of the top artistes today are over their 50s. I am talking about Madonna, Mick Jagger, the Scorpions, etc.
Music is for all and there is no such a thing as a genre being for a particular age group.
So, young lady, one day you will be as old as your dad. Will you accept the fact that you will not be able to sing along with your children or grand children then, as the songs are too modern for you? Accept the fact that your dad appreciates your music and interests and does not restrict you from the things you like.
As you think hard about this, I’m going to listen to Cobra Starship’s rendition of Good Girls Go Bad.
