Touring Europe

In 1995, my sister was really keen on backpacking to Europe. She encouraged me to go as well because it was easy to get permission from our parents.

To make a long story short, we bought the Eurail pass which meant unlimited travel on nearly all European railroads at a fixed price within a certain number of days.

After a few days, I was extremely exhausted carrying a heavy rucksack every day. However, my sister seemed to get more energetic by the day and even wanted to cross the border to Prague, the Republic of Czech — which hadn’t joined EU yet.

I couldn’t convince my sister not to go, and we soon ended up in a train to Czech.

We took a night train and fell asleep. Suddenly my sister woke me up and screamed to get off the train.

“We are at Prague main station, we must get off, otherwise we may be fined!” she shouted.

The train was moving slowly. I was dumbfounded. I jumped off, fell and hit my face on the ground. As a result I broke a tooth. Fortunately, my sister, who also jumped, didn’t hurt herself because she had her bag in front of her.

It turned out that we weren’t at the main station, but east Prague station.

I got my tooth attended to in Germany and we were off on our travels again!
