An aromatic herb comes to the aid of ageing skin
ANTI-OXIDANTS feature prominently in many beauty brands that offer to help keep our skin looking young and wrinkle-free.
Oxidation happens when there is exposure to the air. Just like a cut apple, it will start to deteriorate and turn brownish. Likewise, it causes ageing and damage to our skin’s cells. Thus, anti-oxidants are essential in helping to minimise the effects on our skin.
Parsley is a popular garnish but it also can do wonders for your face Joining the ever-growing lineup of anti-oxidants is an unlikely contender – parsley. Aesop, an Australian botanical-based skincare line, has picked the fragrant, bright green herb plant that is often used as a spice, garnish or condiment as one of nine anti-oxidants for its Aesop Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment.
Its researchers found that the oil of Carum petroselinum, or parsley seed, is a botanical that offers the strongest anti-oxidant traits. Along with parsley seed oil, the other eight anti-oxidants in this product are blackcurrant seed oil, Tocopherol (Vitamin E), evening primrose oil, sweet almond oil, wheatgerm oil, rosehip oil, rice bran oil and carrot seed oil.
Those who are not fans of parsley need not worry – its texture is light and it is absorbed easily, and, no, the product does not smell like something you would use for cooking!
Aesop’s latest facial treatment contains nine anti-oxidants. Dennis Paphitis, the creative force behind the Aesop range, says that the products in the Parsley Seed range all contain generous amounts of anti-oxidants and vitamins, but the Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment is the most potent of them all.
He points out that the best quality emollients and anti-oxidants have been combined to ensure the range suits every type of skin.
Says Ken Lim, owner of Kens Apothecary, the local distributor for the Aesop range, “We launched the Parsley Seed range in Malaysia in early 2000 with the toner and it did very well. Our weather is humid and it encourages sebum production, so the toner was formulated with this in mind.”
The Aesop Parsley Seed Anti-Oxidant Facial Treatment is the sixth product in the Parsley Seed range. Lim says massaging a small amount of this concentrated treatment onto your face and neck two to three times a week will help revive and hydrate skin.
Other products in the range available here are the toner, cleansing masque, eye serum, eye cream and serum.
