Nature’s moisture boost
By WONG LI ZA
Tapping the hydrating power of botanical saps.
IT SEEMS to make perfect sense – creating a hydrating skincare range with active ingredients from plants that live in harsh climates for their moisture-binding abilities.
That’s what Yves Rocher has done, staying true to its over 50 years of botanical heritage.
Hydra Vegetal’s active ingredients are derived from two unique plants – the Canadian maple tree and organic blue agave from Mexico – that have adaptive abilities to survive in extreme climatic conditions.
The Canadian maple tree regulates the fluidity of water through its sap in order to survive the extreme cold weather in the Northern Hemisphere.
According to Yves Rocher researchers, maple sap helps diffuse water to every layer of our epidermis for a deeper and more lasting supply of moisture.
Meanwhile, thriving in the arid deserts of Mexico for thousands of years is the blue agave, which has efficient moisture-reserving properties within its sap.
When combined, the saps from both plants are believed to provide and lock in moisture deep within the skin.
“We are very excited about this range because the botanical sap formulation is a major innovation,” said Armelle Nguyen-Than, Yves Rocher’s director of marketing (Asia), who was in Kuala Lumpur to launch the range recently.
She added that Hydra Vegetal can be used in combination with other ranges of products like anti-ageing creams.
“Everybody has problems with hydration, and at different stages in our lives, the skin will need extra hydration,” said Nguyen-Than, a French national with French, Vietnamese and Chinese origins, currently based in Shanghai.
Made in France, the range comprises five products to provide a complete skincare regimen.
The Hydra Vegetal Hydrating Cleansing Milk doubles as a make-up remover while the Refreshing Gel Cleanser eliminates make-up, impurities and excess sebum. Containing organic hammamelis water, the gel cleanser is said to leave skin soft and soothed.
The Hydrating Toner forms the final cleansing step by further removing leftover impurities. It is believed to give skin a healthy glow and prep the skin for the next step.
The star product of Hydra Vegetal is the Moisture Boost Concentrate, said to boost hydration by 104%* (or slightly more than double) within the first application. (*Based on the average increase in the hydration indices on 22 women after 30 minutes of application).
The brand recommends that a moisturiser should always be used after applying the concentrate to help seal in and increase the hydrating effects of the moisturiser.
Last but not least, the 24H Intense Hydrating Gel Cream is suitable for normal to combination skin, and claimed to offer intense and lasting hydration for up to 24 hours.
In addition to botanical saps, the cream contains betain to help protect skin cells against environmental aggression. Fine lines caused by dehydrated skin are touted to be plumped up with moisture, and the gel cream’s light texture aims to leave skin feeling refreshed and revitalised.
Price range: RM49 to RM99. Available at all Yves Rocher outlets.
