OCT 13 & 14: Jamu is an annual performance event that aims to further develop and provide exposure to lecturer-choreographers of the Faculty of Dance, National Academy of Arts Culture and Heritage (ASWARA).

Jamu 2012 is themed Malaysiaku! Featured in this edition are new works by Wong Kit Yaw, Mohd Seth Hamzah, Gan Chih Pei and Joseph Gonzales, among others.

Tickets: RM30 (adults) and RM10 (students).

Time: 3pm and 8.30pm (Oct 13), and 3pm ( Oct 14).

OCT 13 & 14: Presented by the Actors Studio Seni Teater Rakyat, under the direction of Madam Kam, A Night Of Cantonese Opera will showcase popular classic tales like Madam White Snake (the legend of a snake demon who transforms into a human being to marry the one who saved her life), and Romance Of The Red Pear Flower (of a scholar and a courtesan whose love is not meant to be). The opera will be in Cantonese, but a synopsis in English will be provided.

Tickets: RM38 (adults) and RM23 (students/ disabled/TAS card members). All ticket prices include the RM3 ticket handling fee.

Time: 8pm (Oct 13) and 3pm (Oct 14).

OCT 13: In this third instalment of the Chinese Concert Series by the Dithyrambic Singers, the singers will croon a few Chinese art songs by local composer Khaw Guan Liang.

Well-known for his patriotic compositions, Khaw infuses elements of Malay poetry into his Chinese songs. This concert will feature Khaw’s two volumes of published works which include numerous solo and choral compositions.

Tickets: RM30 and RM50. Time: 8pm.

KLEFF ECO-MUSIC FESTIVAL & 1DRUM CIRCLE

OCT 14: The Eco-Music Festival & 1Drum Circle will be an additional attraction to the 5th Kuala Lumpur Eco Film Festival (KLEFF), which features Malaysia’s top youth Eco- Music groups on one platform and is aimed at creating awareness and educating the public.

The groups will be giving a workshop/performance using recycled materials like plastic bottles, pots and pans as their musical instruments.

The public is invited to be part of the community drum circle. Limited drums will be provided, so everyone is encouraged to bring their own drum or pail. Admission: free.

Time: 4pm to 6pm.

OCT 13 & 14: In this concert, MPO will collaborate with Spanish guitar maestro Rafael Serrallet, who will dazzle you with his profound artistry.

Featured music includes Claude Debussy’s Images pour orchestra (Iberia) and España, a rhapsody for orchestra.

Composed by Emmanuel Chabrier in 1883, it was an immediate success after its premiere that same year and has led to a trend for French music with Spanish influence.

This exciting musical trip will also present Maurice Ravel’s famous Boléro and Manuel de Falla’s Three Cornered Hat (Suite No.2) which consists of gypsy and flamenco dances inspired from a pantomime ballet.

OCT 15: October will feature German comedies presented by Goethe Institute. Released in 2010, Kokowääh is about Henry (Til Schweiger), an unsuccessful screenwriter who gets a second chance at patching things up with his ex.

Magdalena, his eight-year-old daughter from a long-forgotten one-night stand, turns his life upside down. Free admission. Time: 8pm.

OCT 13 & 14: The largest halal expo in Malaysia, Halal Fiesta Malaysia, will witness the congregation of the local halal market with more than 700 booths and participation from over 650 companies.

There are a variety of programmes lined up to entertain visitors of all ages, including daily cooking demonstrations by Chef Zam, a fashion show showcasing up-and-coming Muslimah fashion designers and a bumiputra entrepreneur conference by Mara.

Time: 10am to 9pm (Oct 13) and 10am to 7pm (Oct 14).
