Caipirinha from Brazil
The classic Caipirinhna may not be a rum drink per se, but it still uses a spirit called cacha ca, which is made from fermented sugar cane juice. OK, fine, the caipirinha is not exactly made of rum. It is actually made from cachaça, a Brazilian spirit distilled from fermented sugar cane juice (as opposed to the other sugar cane by-products that rum is usually made from). Still, I couldn’t bear to leave this out of the list because the caipirinha is just such a great drink. Also comprising lime juice and syrup, it is almost a cross between a daiquiri and a mojito, but with added sugar cane sweetness thanks to the cachaça.
