For the woman with an indomitable spirit, there’s a wardrobe to dress the part.

THE label eclipse has always targeted strong women in the know. And, many of its campaigns are fronted by strong personalities. For Fall Winter 2012, it is no different with Elaine Daly, law graduate, ex-beauty queen, TV-host and actress doing the duties.

Daly is also designer/owner of Daly Bags − a line of luxury bags that she designs and sells online. She is truly a woman of many guises and talent.

She fits well into the philosophy of the season’s collection about an urban warrior. It’s all about women who put forth steeliness with dark beauty, while channelling the feeling of strength and power. One who has confidence and can face whatever the harsh urban landscape throws at her.

“Strength is having a solid belief that we can do anything – 100% is possible, 100% of the time,” said Daly in a press release. “A woman of strength is not showing, demonstrating or vocalising that she has power or strength, but rather it’s about her quiet resilience and vulnerability.

“Her confidence, knowing smile and the calmness in her eyes would show it. I define strength as a woman who believes in her beauty and intelligence with a touch of humility.”

It takes more than one look to recognise Daly in this campaign. Her look has been so transformed she is almost unrecognisable.

Sonny San, eclipse creative director, says that when he is inspired with a definite vision, he always sticks to his gut feeling to look for the models or celebrities to collaborate with. To him, Daly is a modern woman who exudes strength in ambition and character, and thus was the obvious candidate.

The collection to San is sensuous; feminine yet lets the world know that a woman can take charge. He added, “It is exactly as its theme suggests. The collection is all set to capture the mood of renewed sensuality with a strong, invincible attitude to cater and offer a new kind of confidence in every woman.”

“I’ve always been a fan of eclipse. Its details and simplicity of cut and measure define me even more as a woman who adores fashion. I love the fact that the designs are created to simply beautify a woman’s own style,” explained Daly.

The key look this season is about a second-skin silhouette. Using his forte in draping fabrics in strict shapes that contours the body and with an attitude to match, the collection is backed by solid designs and details of edgy graphics.

Razor sharp necklines, sublime skin revealing insets and cut-out backs are the mainstay of the collection. The dress is back, stronger than ever in permutations of fit and length.

Although the body conscious silhouette can be daunting, the saving grace is that fabric technology has advanced, and muffin tops and unsightly bulges can be a thing of the past. Now, even non-stretch fabrics variety have spandex fibres weaved into the grain to fit and flatter most body shapes.

Fabric-blocking is another key look for the collection, whereby contrasting textures and textiles of the same colour in the same dress help create a slim and feminine silhouette. Add to that, sheer mesh layers and strategically placed cutouts, which are found in more unconventional spots, or veiled with mesh and leopard lace.

Black is the key colour, while the spectrum of other deep and rich colours plays supporting roles. This season, the collection will also witness the emergence of a mix of ox-blood, intense aquamarine and a plethora of greens. Patterns are kept to a minimum to allow the focus on shape and structure in each and very piece.

Every woman loves and adores things that sparkle and shine. This comes in the form of subtle palettes, re-embroidered into tulles and crepes.

Daly’s favourite looks from the collection: the low cut sequined column gown and white sequined sleeveless short dress.

Elaine explains, “The dresses reflect my character – strong, confident but easy to manage since I’m always on the go.”
