JUNE 30: ACTS of Performing Arts is staging a charity dance and drama performance, The Nutcracker, in December 2012.
Ballet dancers aged 14 to 19 are needed to fill the main roles of this classic tale of the rescue of a prince cursed to become a toy. Successful candidates will have to enrol in ACTS training sessions.
Part of the proceeds of this charity endeavour will go to the Hand Foot Mouth Painting Artists Sdn Bhd to fund their work in producing greeting cards, calendars and gift tags. Time: 3.30pm to 4.30pm.

EVERY LAST WEDNESDAY OF THE MONTH:
PJ Live Arts will stage a new series of monthly magic performances called Magic Live, produced in collaboration with Magic Annexe.
The show is scheduled to run every last Wednesday and will feature the artful sleight of hand of illusionists such as Anslem Roy, one of Asia’s leading magic performers; Bryan Yap, a new talent with rope; skull-toting Jeff Gan; and costume switcheroo extraordinaire, Avery Chin.
Audiences can expect a mix of raw and no-frills magic with engaging theatrics from this diverse set of performers.
Admission: an early bird price of RM35, RM40 at the door. Time: 8.30pm.

The performance will close with Symphony No.1 in C Minor (Op.68), composed by Johannes Brahms in 1876.

JULY 2: Catch the inaugural combined performance of pianist Alexander Melnikov and violinist Isabelle Faust in Kuala Lumpur
Showcasing his talent as early as 12 years old performing Rachmaninov’s first concerto, Melnikov commands the classic Russian technique that enables him to rise to virtuosic challenges but his thoughtful musicianship defies easy classification.
Faust, a highly sought-after performer of contemporary music, won the Leopold Mozart Competition at 15.

JULY 14: Join Dr Michela Bertagnolli Febvre and the Master Class Opera Recital in an introductory opera class covering its history, misconceptions, famous performances, composers, librettists, music and singers.
The class will be conducted in English with audio-visual presentations and interactive discussions.
There will also be performances by masterclass participants featuring excerpts from Puccini’s La Bohème.

JULY 15: Turn wholesome goat’s milk into a bar of soap in this class that will teach you the inner workings of the cold-process soap-making technique.
Goat’s milk is well-known for its moisturising qualities and skin-softening properties. Participants will learn how to make their own soap mould using 500g of soap, which can be sliced into smaller chunks.
Please bring along one empty HL-brand milk carton (1,000ml). The workshop will be conducted in English, Mandarin and Cantonese.
