Here’s another spin on the BB cream by renowned dermatologist Dr Fredric Brandt.

IT MAY have been formulated by a German dermatologist, and the Koreans are the ones to be credited with all the hype, but BB cream, or Blemish Balm cream as it was originally called, has come full circle as another Westerner lays hand on it.

Renowned American dermatologist and aesthetician Dr Fredric Brandt has decided to expand his repertoire of skincare products to include BB Cream.

The thing is, there seems to be a veritable difference between BB cream in Asia and that made in the West. Over here, it’s touted to be a multi-tasker with different benefits apart from a complexion perfector. Many claim to have anti-ageing, hydrating, skin toning, healing and brightening effects, among a whole list of other things. However, some beauty debates on the Internet have brought up that BB creams in the West often end up being no more than another make-up base.

Stephanie Chai, the Malaysian spokesperson for Flexitone BB Cream together with Stephane Colleu, CEO and president of Cosmetic Dermatology Inc.

Perhaps one of the toughest challenges is when most BB creams offer only one single shade and is expected to match the skin tone of every woman, regardless of which continent they are from!

Dr Brandt Flexitone BB Cream self-adjusting flawless coverage is claimed to do precisely that. The Flexitone technology is a colour blending complexion enhancement technology that is touted to perfect and correct all skin tones, textures and types.

Said to blend seamlessly with one’s skin tone, it provides natural coverage without the look of wearing make-up.

According to Stephane Colleu, CEO and president of Cosmetic Dermatology Inc, which owns Dr Brandt worldwide, the Flexitone technology is based on a new “pigment in pigment” physicochemical structure.

“In this system, the coloured pigments are surrounded by white pigments, both dispersed in an inverted emulsion. During the application, this special structure breaks itself and reveals the colour step by step. So, it can go from white to the final colour (which is more intense) of the skin,” he explained during the launch when he was in Kuala Lumpur recently.

Colleu, who works with Dr Fredric Brandt closely, helps to grow and strengthen the brand presence worldwide, and is the voice and image of the brand in many markets.

The formula also has hydrolised pearl powder comprised of amino acids, proteins, polysaccharides and minerals, which increases skin’s radiance and luminosity, maintain hydration and prevent moisture loss. Thanks to the trace elements and minerals (calcium) of the pearl powder, cell metabolism and collagen production is increased, reducing the look of wrinkles.

The plant-based oxidative shield help brighten the skin tone, rejuvenate complexion and protects against free radicals.

“The unique combination of lyso-phospholipids and perilla oil contribute towards skin hydration and smoothens the surface of skin, minimising the appearance of lines and wrinkles.

“Dr Brandt’s BB Cream also has anti-ageing benefits and over time, will improve your complexion,” he adds.

The BB Cream also has UV SPF30/PA to protect against the sun’s rays.

“Dr Brandt is well-known for his professional dermalogical skincare products. We have launched something for anti-ageing (Time Arrest) that works very well and is very popular. We have products for exfoliation (Microdermabrasion) and refining pores (Pores No More) and skin brightening (Light Years Away).

“And Dr (Fredric) Brandt said, ‘What else are the people asking for?’ We realised that BB Cream is very popular in Asia. We took a year to come up with Dr Brandt BB Cream Flexitone, to be able to offer all the benefits in that one cream and perfect the unique technology of one shade to suit all skin types,” concluded Colleu.
