Shake off panda label
I’m in my early 30s and have permanent dark circles under my eyes. I have tried applying whitening cream and roll-on dark circle removers. None of them seem to help. People always tease me that I look like a panda or I did not get enough sleep. – Lyssa
L’Oreal Paris training manager Kimberly Foo says that fatigue, or inadequate rest, is not always directly related to dark under-eye circles. But being tired generally does make your skin paler. This makes dark circles look darker and the pigmentation more obvious. A more transparent skin is hereditary, which makes under-eye circles look darker.
Try using L’Oreal Paris White Perfect Micro-Vibration Eye Brightener. It has eye care vibrating technology, and this replaces fingers to massage the eye contour. The eye vibrator gives 130 micro vibration per second.
New technology: The L’Oreal Paris Micro-Vibration Eye Brightener offers a solution to dark circles and brown spots around the eye and cheekbones. It offers the ultimate in eye whitening technology, with brightening, anti-dark circles, anti-puffiness and anti-spots action.
Immediately, the skin is smoother, dark circles visibly lightened and eye contour brighter. After four weeks, dark circles and brown spots around eye and cheekbone area are visibly reduced.
When choosing make-up, remember to counter balance the most prominent undertone of your dark circles. A yellow-base concealer corrects most dark circles.
Ideally, you should get a concealer that reflects light in dark areas. Try L’Oreal Paris True Match Concealer which conceals dark circles, tired puffy eyes, lines and pigmentation spots.
It contains glycerine to hydrate the eye area and vitamin C for radiance. Use this on top of your foundation.
Remember to keep a light touch. Use your ring finger to lightly tap the concealer under your eye, working from the corner of the eye to the outside until the concealer is totally blended with your skin; set with loose powder for better stay-on effect.
Choose a concealer colour that’s a little lighter than your usual shade if your dark circles are deep hollows and go a little darker than usual if your dark circles are puffy. Remember to remove all traces of make-up before bedtime. You can use L’Oreal’s Gentle Lip and Eye Makeup Remover.
L’Oreal Paris is giving Lyssa a L’Oreal Paris White Perfect Micro-Vibration Eye Brightener, True Match Touche Magique Light Gold and Gentle Lip and Eye Makeup Remover, altogether worth RM129.70.
Recently, I’ve been experiencing very dry skin on my face which is peeling and tight. I don’t know why as I’ve been using the same skincare products.
Due to the dryness on my face, it feels itchy and very uncomfortable. Is this due to hormonal changes or stress? I always make sure that I get enough sleep and drink a minimum of two litres of water every day as I work in an air-conditioned office. Please advise me as I’ve never experienced this before. – Carrie
Christine Cheong, training manager of Yves Rocher says that what you are experiencing are signs of dehydration, a very common skin condition. It is water loss from the body.
Every day, the skin loses 85ml to 170 ml of water. It goes through a water loss process known as Trans Epidermal Water Loss (TEWL). This refers to a movement of water loss from the surface of the skin to the environment.
The rate of the skin’s TWEL is dependent on the condition of the skin and environmental factors such as humidity, season and the hydration level of the skin.
As such, drinking two litres of water daily does not necessarily improve your skin’s ability to retain moisture it needs to feel comfortable. This is aided by your skin’s natural sebum, and the emollients and humectants provided by your moisturisers.
Common causes of dehydration include air-conditioning, inadequate moisturisers, over-cleansing the skin, saunas, wind, pollution, smoking, illness and certain medications. Alcohol and caffeine are diuretics which decrease the body’s fluid levels and can lead to dehydration too.
A dehydrated skin may experience skin tightness, flaking or peeling, skin itching and redness, uneven texture, roughness and development of fine lines.
Dehydration can be rectified by giving the skin an adequate amount of hydration throughout the day.
Yves Rocher has a new range of skincare, Hydra Vegetal with botanical saps. Maple sap, organic blue agave and betain work in synergy to provide skin 24 hours of deep, intensive skin hydration.
Hydra Vegetal uses three simple and clinically proven steps to help the skin to achieve 24 hours of long lasting comfort by stimulating, distributing hydration through every layer of epidermis and strengthening the skin barrier to prevent water loss.
A three-step facial skincare routine involves cleansing, toning and moisturising.
The Hydrating Cleansing Milk is for those who want to combine the benefits of hydrating their skin while cleansing their face, or there’s the Refreshing Cleansing gel for those who enjoy cleansing with water and want to use it as a double cleanser.
Cleansing is completed by using the Hydra Vegetal Toner which eliminates all traces of impurities and prepares the skin for the next boost in hydration.
The second step, the Moisture Boost Concentrate serum, provides the skin with the ultimate boost in immediate deep, lasting hydration.
This product locks and circulates moisture to every level of the epidermis, boosting hydration in the first application by up to 104%. It can be applied morning and evening before your moisturiser. Leaves skin revitalised and radiant.
The third step is moisturising. The 24-hour Intense Hydrating Gel Cream has a non-greasy, lightweight texture which is rapidly absorbed by the skin and gives hydration to relieve parched skin while revitalising and replumping dehydrated skin.
Yves Rocher will be giving Carrie a HydraVegetal Hydrating Moisture Boost Serum, Cleanser, Toner and Hydrating Gel Cream, altogether worth RM150.
