Malaysian makes Booker shortlist
THE shortlist for the 2012 Man Booker Prize was revealed on Tuesday, welcoming the first Malaysian ever to join its elite rank of nominees. Malaysia-born, South African-based author Tan Twan Eng has been shortlisted this year for his second novel, The Garden Of Evening Mists.
Tan, 39, who was previously longlisted for the 2007 Booker for his debut novel The Gift Of Rain, is one of six authors selected by the prestigious literary award’s judging panel. Chaired by The Times Literary Supplement editor Sir Peter Stothard, this year’s judges comprise literary critic Dinah Birch, historian Amanda Foreman, actor Dan Stevens (known for his work on TV show Downton Abbey) and academic Bharat Tandon.
The winner of this year’s Booker Prize will be announced on Oct 16.
