Stress and the skin
I’VE recently gotten promoted and my workload has increased. With the additional stress, I can see that my face has become oilier and I get breakouts more often. Furthermore, my face has become more sensitive (it turns slightly reddish) to the scrub which I previously used before, which makes it harder for me to shave daily. Please help. – Jeremy
Taro Yamaguchi, scientific communication manager, global SK-II external relations Procter & Gamble, says congratulations on your promotion!
Higher stress levels can cause skin issues, and skin gets weakened further by other physical stresses, such as harsh shaving which can cause skin irritation and damage.
In our research among men, we found that those with higher stress levels have less hydrated skin and weaker skin barrier functions. Combination skin, that is oily and dehydrated at the same time, is more prone to breakouts than normal, oily or dry skin.
Mild cleansing to remove excess sebum and dirt, and moisturising with an effective essence that helps the skin’s natural rejuvenation process and sebum control are important skincare measures. The combination of our new SK-II Men Moisturizing Cleanser and SK-II Men Facial Treatment Essence can provide you all of these benefits to help you achieve radiant clear skin.
The Moisturizing Cleanser is designed to deeply cleanse skin and pores by thoroughly removing visible dirt such as dust and sebum, and invisible ones such as bacteria that can build up on the skin surface and clog pores. This slows down the skin renewal process, and ultimately, results in multiple skin problems such as oiliness, dullness, uneven skin tone, spots, fine lines, wrinkles and sagging. The cleanser also removes blackheads and whiteheads that cause skin to break out.
After cleansing, use the Facial Treatment Essence that will visibly transform skin in 14 days. Containing over 90% Pitera, SK-II’s signature ingredient, the Essence has been proven to deliver visible skin improvement day after day.
For extra hydration, use the SK-II MEN Age Revitalize Moisturizer as part of your skincare regimen as it can help boost skin moisture and firmness as well as reduce the onset of skin ageing signs, such as uneven skin tone and wrinkles.
Do drop by any SK-II counter to have a complimentary skin check using our state-of-the-art skin analysis equipment to find out more about your current skin condition and the right products to use to tackle these problems. Your personal skin data will help you keep track of your skin improvements over time.
SK-II will be giving Jeremy an SK-II MEN Moisturizing Cleanser (120g) worth RM219.
I am 20 years old this year and my skin colour is langsat yellow due to my nyonya genes. It’s difficult to find a suitable night-time eyeshadow to match my skin tone. Also, I have had eczema since I was a child so my skin is sensitive to perfume, and it becomes dry easily. I once went for a free skin trial and was told that the hydration level of my skin is below average. Is this something I should worry about? – Lydia
Haritha Shan, M.A.C senior artist says no two Asian women are alike, and no two Asian faces are alike, either. The make-up that works for one woman might not work for her sister. We have so many variations in skin tone, eye shape, and bone structure.
Before we get into eye make-up applications, keep in mind that these can be used for women with or without a crease or bottom lid. Think of the entire eye area as being a flat canvass. This will make it easier for you to understand make-up application.
Apply highlight M.A.C Eyeshadow in Ricepaper to brow bone area. Apply the darker shade M.A.C Eyeshadow in Bronze to crease area and inner lid, extending lightly towards the outer corner, ending in a vertical V shape. Line eyes with M.A.C Bootblack liquid liner, extending just past the outer corner of the eye. Line the waterline with M.A.C Graphblack Technakohl pencil. Then use #219 M.A.C Pencil Brush and blend bottom line of the eyes with the existing eyeliner to create a softer effect. Curl lashes and apply M.A.C False Lashes mascara for an amazing finish.
Here are a few tips to remember: Look for yellow undertone foundations, powders and correctors. Get professional advice and test products on your face. You won’t be disappointed when you find a good shade that works for you.
Since Asian skin tends to be combination skin and eye lids can become oily, causing make-up to smudge, use an eye make-up primer to keep liner and shadow in place. When choosing eye colour shades, you could try greens and bronze which look beautiful with deep brown eyes. Use shimmering light tones to highlight. Stay away from shades that are too pink in tone.
Invest in an eyelash curler. Your mascara will look so much nicer and lashes longer! For blush, stick to plums and bronzed tones. Stay away from bright pink tones.
M.A.C will be giving Lydia a Carine Roitfeld Eye Palette and Lipstick worth RM280.
