JAG took action

THE Joint Action Group for Gender Equality (JAG) views with deep concern the letter published under Dear Thelma in Star2 on Sept 2.

The piece misrepresents the facts of a particular case and the responses by JAG, and by one of our member organisations, to this case. Specifically, it accused JAG of being “resolutely silent” and of engaging in a “cover up” on an alleged sexual harassment case handled by a member organisation of JAG over two years ago.

JAG has met with the said organisation and is satisfied that due process took place then, viz., a three-member panel of inquiry and the finding that the incident amounted to “misconduct” but not sexual harassment.

In our view, the complaint in question was taken seriously and dealt with properly, and with the agreement of both parties concerned.

The Joint Actian Group for Gender Equality:

Persatuan Kesedaran Komuniti Selangor (EMPOWER)

Perak Women for Women Society (PWWS)

Women’s Centre for Change, Penang (WCC)

Persatuan Sahabat Wanita Selangor (PSWS)

Sisters in Islam (SIS)

All Women’s Action Sociefy (AWAM)

Sabah Women’s Action Resource Group (SAWO)

Editor’s note: We regret JAG was mentioned in the said letter and we apologise for the oversight.
