Second chance at happiness
THE year 2012 was a very meaningful one for me that was filled with joy and wonderful moments.
At the age of 54 I finally came to enjoy family life with my companion (a widower) and his children and their extended family. We have been together for three years and our “honeymoon” is over. Now we truly see and feel our real selves – and to my surprise, I realised last year that I feel a sense of belonging with this family.
I could contribute as a friend, housekeeper, “babysitter” for the Filipina maid, chef trainer and, most importantly, keep my companion happy most of the time.
Why do I feel so good about being able to play these ordinary-sounding roles? The reason is that up till the age of 52, I had never done any of these things.
It’s the power of love and I want to thank God for giving me a second chance at finding happiness and be able to touch the lives of my companion and his family.
Going forward, what does 2013 mean to me?
I will be an even better companion and contribute even more support and happiness to him and his family.
I believe I can be a role model for those who are stepmothers because of my experience in the last three years. I will be a more loving, respected stepmum and an “instant” grandmother.
My formula for accomplishing all this is to love what I do and to count my blessings every day, and to strive to be better in whatever I do.
May 2013 be an even happier and more meaningful year for everyone.
