Creative flair: ‘Flowing lines and carefully crafted angles are my way of telling beautiful stories,’ says Celine Wong, who is seen here at work. Instead of run-of-the-mill studio photographs, why not a sketched portrait for one’s wedding? Here’s an artistic alternative.
WHEN she began her Chinese calligraphy lessons at the age of six, little did Celine Wong realise that the motion, rhythm and technique of her brush strokes would later become a core part of her identity as a fashion illustrator and artist.
Over the years, Wong, 22, has developed her signature style by combining the dynamic elements of calligraphy with modern digital techniques.
“Linear yet organic, I focus on single strokes to create a variety of feelings in every image. Flowing lines and carefully crafted angles are my way of telling beautiful stories,” says the soft-spoken Wong, who was born in Alor Star, Kedah.
“I am fascinated by women’s curves, beautiful features and human gestures. I use mixed media, traditional Chinese ink and digital techniques. Applying calligraphy in my work helps to capture the natural flow of the female form,” adds Wong who studied Illustration at The One Academy Of Communication Design in Petaling Jaya.

Recently, Wong’s talent caught the eye of many brides and grooms, who have commissioned her to sketch unique portraits to be featured at wedding dinners and receptions.
According to client Hermayne Chong, “My husband and I were introduced to Celine’s artworks earlier this year. We immediately requested Celine to sketch a portrait of us to be used as our wedding backdrop and as part of the photowall for our wedding reception. Our guests were impressed by the artistic quality of the portrait done by Celine. It added a touch of elegance to our wedding reception.”
For those curious about Wong, she will be showcasing her artistic skill at the upcoming “Love Moments 2013” Wedding Showcase from Jan 18 to 20 at Zebra Square, Jalan Kampung Pandan in Kuala Lumpur.
Wong will be providing a complimentary sketch to the first 100 couples who sign up to attend the event through its official Facebook page.
Apart from Wong, there will be other highlights at the inaugural “Love Moments”, which promises an array of wedding gowns and all the paraphernalia to make one’s wedding memorable.
