UNTIL MARCH 3: Claudia Bueno is a Venezuelan light artist who is presenting two series of works based on the manipulation of light to depict the sights, rhythms and dynamics of places the artist has visited. Forgotten Cities is the result of the artist’s recent travels through the South - East Asia region, while Extracto deals with the contradictions found within pristine environments. Gallery is open daily from 10am to 9pm.

MARCH 9-10: View the annual migration of thousands of raptors and other large-sized birds as they return this spring to their breeding grounds in Russia, Mongolia, China and Japan. There will also be an exhibition fair organised by the Malaysian Nature Society. This is an overnight trip that starts from RM140 per head for dormitory-style accommodation, and registration can be done over Facebook.

MARCH 2&3: The Malaysian Philharmonic Orchestra will perform a tribute concert with the theme “ABBA Goes Symphonic” under the direction of Carl Davis. Expect to be regaled by hits from the unforgettable disco days of the 1970s this Saturday (8.30pm) and Sunday (3pm). There will also be a segment on Broadway hits, with Heather Shipp singing selected numbers from My Fair Lady, Oliver, Evita and Cats, as well as Les Misérables.

MARCH 1: The Satay Trio is a collaboration between Berkleetrained guitarist Az Samad, crossgenre/multi-genre violinist Fung Chern Hwei and Brooklyn-based vocalist Cheryl Ta n. This onenight only show starting at 8pm will be an event where jazz, musical theatre and ballads meet. There will be a cover charge of RM40 for the show which lasts 90 minutes.

MARCH 2: This clinical symposium will include a workshop on laughter therapy, and plenary lectures (2.30pm) by local experts in their respective fields from the team at Pantai Hospital’s Breast Care Centre. The Breast Diseases Symposium starts at 12.30pm, and is intended for breast cancer survivors and healthcare professionals, while the 2.30pm session is only for professionals.

MARCH 1–2: Dama pays tribute to the late Taiwanese singer Teresa Teng as it marks its 20th year of bringing quality entertainment to Malaysia. The concert, planned for June 14–23, will be based on Teng’s acclaimed The Moon Speaks For My Heart. Dama needs to pick a sizable group of backup singers and dancers aged between 17 to 35 years (both male and female). Aspiring singers should be able to sing in Mandarin as well as in English. Audition is by appointment only, and details can be found at the Dama website.

MARCH 3: Fresh from celebrating its 15th anniversary, the HANDS Percussion group is now inviting new team members to join it in the quest to enthrall audiences with vibrant drumming. HANDS performs regularly at community and corporate events, in addition to producing its own shows. Prospective team members should have at least five years’ experience in any percussive instrument. Practice sessions are held every Sunday at 10am-5pm. Those interested will need to bring their own instruments and prepare a three- to five-minute solo piece.
