Festive options

THIS Chinese New Year (CNY), menswear brand John Master has launched its Mercerised Collection.

For the uninitiated, “mercerisation” is a process that removes lifeless, dull and dead cotton, done on either cotton fabric or on thread. It was founded in 1844 by scientist John Mercer, and the clothing and fabric industry have since evolved with its introduction.

So, what are the characteristics of mercerised cotton? It is said to be more lustrous, thus has more shine. It takes dye more readily resulting in more vibrant colours on clothing made from this fabric.

Fabrics and thread that have gone through the process are stronger, making clothing more durable. Mercerised cotton is also resistant to mildew.

The mercerisation process also reduces lint while clothing made in this process does not shrink or lose its shape, given proper handling and care.

The John Master CNY Mercerised Collection features an array of festive colours – peony red, shades of ocean blue, saffron orange, prune and willow white.

Available in both regular and tapered fit, the range is priced from RM159.90 to RM189.90.

Luminous display

A SPIRITED collection of snake-themed pieces can be found at LiuLiGongFang.

Under the watchful eye of creative director Loretta H. Yang, this range plays on the strength of the serpent and also highlights the brand’s long tradition of anthropomorphic animals.

“Heroes are made every day and we can borrow from the snake’s wisdom to change our destiny. From a corporate perspective, the snake’s astute ways also inspire people. Be prepared for the first strike of spring thunder and victory will be yours,” said LiuLiGongFang CEO and co-founder Chang Yi in a press release.

The snake’s nature is conveyed through key pieces named Within Grasp, A Spiritual Gem and Opulence Invites Sun. Most outstanding is the Ascending Authority (priced at RM1,100); the use of cubic zirconia introduces a luminous juxtaposition to its already opulent appearance.

Available at its boutique in Pavilion Kuala Lumpur.
