Best blogging gig
Some suggested spots that the winner can blog while on the amazing trip around the world. Is it a dream come true if you get to travel and blog — and get paid for it?
IF you’ve never wanted to blog in your life, you might just change your mind if you get to travel the world, all expenses taken care of, meet the locals and take part in challenges. And get paid for your trouble.
Sign me up, you say?
Well, hold on to your blogging horses. You’re not the only one who’s interested. The gig is the reward in a competition run by My Destination, the global travel resource website powered by a community of local experts.
First launched in 2006 by James Street and Neil Waller, the website will post information on what to do, where to eat, sleep and drink and top tips in more than 80 destinations in 45 countries, from which they will choose the best entry.
They call it the Biggest, Baddest, Bucket List, and one lucky person is going to get the prize of a lifetime – a six-month, all-inclusive, blogging trip around the world to at least 25 international destinations and a cheque for US$50,000 (RM155, 250) upon completion.
The competition is organised in partnership with international associates that include Hotels.com, Travelex and Viator. The challenges will be wide and varied, covering everything from visiting a landmark to tasting a local delicacy, to staying with a family and participating in an adrenaline-pumping activity.
The best part is that the winner gets to draw up their own six-month itinerary. You will blog for My Destination throughout the trip.
First, applicants must create a video application in English of up to three minutes in length talking about their favourite destination around the world – whether it’s the city you live in, your best holiday or the place you’ve always dreamed of travelling to.
Next, you upload the video to www.mydestination.com/bbb together with a completed application form and travel blog-style entry. The video and blog entry can be of two different locations in order to showcase creativity and diversity.
Only 10 candidates will be shortlisted – five chosen by My Destination and five by Netizens of the world, and then the final round of voting opens.
Oh, yes, Ben Southall, the guy who had the “Best Job in the World” as a caretaker of an island in 2009 is the guest judge.Applications close on March 31 – and on April 12, the Top 10 will be announced, while the Top Three will be chosen on April 26, and the winner on May 7. – S.S. Yoga
