Best job in the world
Live the dream: Be the next person with the best job in the world; now there’s six! One of it is Wildlife Caretaker (South Australia). — Tourism Australia. What could possibly be the best occupation you could land? Is it even work if you’re having fun doing it?
REMEMBER Ben Southall? He was the dude who probably had the best job in the world back in 2009.
Southall got a job as a caretaker on Hamilton Island on the Great Barrier Reef, Australia. All he had to do was have a vacation on the island and communicate to a global audience via weekly blogs, video updates and photo diaries.
And he got paid A$150,000 (RM350,000 back then) for six months of “work”. Heavenly!
Southall won the job after joining a contest campaign run by Tourism Queensland, which also saw a Malaysian shortlisted out of thousands of applicants worldwide.
Were you envious and frustrated that it was not you out there holidaying and getting paid for it? Fret not as the campaign is back. And get this – there are now SIX jobs up for grabs.
And if you get the six-month assignment this time around, you’ll get paid A$100,000 (RM319,000), plus accommodation, food and expenses, for doing one of the following menial jobs: Chief Funster (New South Wales); Outback Adventurer (Northern Territory); Park Ranger (Queensland); Wildlife Caretaker (South Australia); Lifestyle Photographer (Victoria); and Taster Master (Western Australia).
The competition is run by Tourism Australia with the six state and territory partners.
It’s open to anyone over 18 who can obtain a working holiday visa for Australia (yes, Malaysians are eligible).
All applicants need to do is submit their applications via a form.
After submission they will be asked to upload a 30-second video explaining why they should be chosen for the job. Do note that the closing date for video submission is April 10.
You may apply for more than one job but can only be shortlisted for one. Only 150 people will be shortlisted and have their details announced online on April 24. There will then be further trimming to the 18 finalists to be announced on May 15.
All finalists will be flown to Australia for interviews and then the final six will be announced on June 21. Winners, you start your “tough” jobs on Aug 1. – S.S. Yoga
