Standard Chartered Bank is rewarding new credit card holders with frequent flyer points.

WHAT do you need when you travel? Lots of cash or credit cards? Maybe combining the two would make perfect sense?

Well, Standard Chartered Bank certainly thinks so and have come up with its first travel credit card – the Standard Chartered WorldMiles MasterCard World. And – since we like to be first in everything – Malaysia has the honour of being the first market to launch the credit card among the 68 countries the bank operates in.

So what do you get besides the mouthful of a name?

Standard Chartered WorldMiles card members will get to accumulate air-miles from three leading partner airlines – Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines and AirAsia. In addition, they stand to gain flights on 51 member airlines through the partner airlines’ frequent flyer programmes which are linked to global alliance network such as OneWorld.

Every RM3 spent using the card earns customers one WorldMiles point, which can be redeemed for one Enrich Mile or KrisFlyer or even one AirAsia BIG Point. Overseas spending allows customer to earn 50% more WorldMiles points (RM2 to one point).

In celebration of the card launch, Standard Chartered is giving new customers, upon card activation, complimentary 40,000 AirAsia BIG Points, which is redeemable for round-trip tickets to Hong Kong, Phuket, Bangkok, Bali and many more destinations.

Other benefits include exclusive discounts and privileges from travel providers such as hotel, car rentals, vacation packages as well as retail and dining.

“With the robust growth in air travel, increasing more than 36% in just over 10 years, business and leisure travellers have become our target segment. We believe this segment will benefit from the Standard Chartered WorldMiles card, and enjoy the extensive rewards that come with it,” says Sonia Wedrychowicz, country head consumer banking, Standard Chartered Bank Malaysia Berhad.
