Contest Rules & Regulations
1. The contest is open to all Malaysian citizens of the age groups as specified below.
  a) School Children & Youth Category (aged 18 years and below as at 1st January 2006).
3 Best Entries: Top 3 winners will each receive RM 1000 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
5 Consolation Prizes: Each winner will receive RM 500 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
  b) Open Category (aged 18 years and above as at 1st January 2006).
3 Best Entries: Top 3 winners will each receive RM 5000 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
3 Consolation Prizes: Each winner will receive RM 1000 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
  c) Open Photo Essay Category (aged 18 years and above as at 1st January 2006).
3 Best Entries: Top 3 winners will each receive RM 5000 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
3 Consolation Prizes: Each winner will receive RM 1000 cash plus prizes in kind and a certificate.
2. There is no limit to the number of entries. However, a winner can only win one (1) prize in each of the categories. Entries can be a in the form of a single image (para (1a) and (1b) and/or a series consisting of 5 (five) related images (para (1c) above) in the form of a photo essay, which will be counted and judged as one set / entry. Please indicate the order of the photographs for such entries. An essay of not more than 200 words must be attached with the entry form.
3. Members of the Main Organizing Committee of this contest are not allowed to participate.The Organizers - comprising collectively the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia, the National Art Gallery Malaysia and Star Publications (M) Bhd reserve the right to substitute the prizes (with items of equivalent value) in the event of unavailability of stock.
4. Images captured by cameras can be of any format, using film or digital, in color or monochrome (black and white). However, mobile phone & PDA images are not acceptable.
5. Each entry must be submitted with the prescribed entry form (photo copies are acceptable) which must be completed, signed by the contestant and pasted on the back of the image print. These prints must not be mounted. All entries are non returnable. Entry forms are available at all Jabatan Kementerian Kesesenian Negara branches nationwide, the National Art Gallery Malaysia and the Ministry of Culture, Arts and Heritage Malaysia. Entry forms can also be downloaded from www.artgallery.gov.my and www.heritage.gov.my.
6. No digital super imposition is allowed. Composite photographs, trick photographs, or and any form of digital imaging or image manipulations will not be accepted. Only minor photo touch-ups such as cropping, adjustment of brightness and color as well as softening or sharpening of the image are allowed.
7. Analog entries must submit the image(s) in 4in X 6in (4R) size printed on any photographic paper. Only short-listed entries will be required to submit the original negative(s) or slide(s) of the image(s). These will need to be submitted to the organizers within fourteen (14) calendar days from the date of notification by the organizers for verification and printing purposes, failing which the entry will be automatically disqualified for judging. Negatives or slides will be returned to contestants if a correctly stamped self-addressed envelope is enclosed with the submission. Failure to do so will vest in the organizers the right to dispose the negatives or slides. Digitally captured image(s) must be submitted on a CD (jpeg or tiff format only) and have to be of a file size of at least 1.5 MB together with a 4in X 6in (4R) print which will be used for judging.
8. Photographs submitted must not have been previously published in any form.
9. All entries must be legible and complete with accurate information. The results of the contest will be decided by a panel of judges, appointed by the Organizers. The judges' decision is final and no correspondence will be entertained.
10. The Organizers will not be responsible for damaged, misdirected or lost entries. Proof of postage is not proof of receipt.
11. The contestants must be the original photographers and own the copyright of the photographs submitted. The copyright of the image(s) remains with the photographer. Where applicable, participants must hold a model release form for models included in their images.
12. Should the contestants fail to fulfill clause 11, they shall indemnity the Organizers for all damages incurred, if any.
13. Copyright and reproduction: The Organizers reserve the absolute rights to exhibit or reproduce any acceptable entries in whatever way deemed fit for exhibition and for any print based publicity and promotional purposes without prior notice, consent or payment of fee whatsoever to the contestants.
14. All entries must reach Malaysia @ 50 Photo Contest, Balai Seni Lukis Negara, 2 Jalan Temerloh, Off Jalan Tun Razak, 53200 Kuala Lumpur before 12 noon on Wednesday, 28th February 2007. Entries received after this due date will be disqualified. All winners will be notified by post and through announcements in the newspapers.
15. By participating in this contest, contestants agree to bound by these rules and regulations as well as the decisions made by the Organizers and the panel of judges.
