Nine injured in collision
NIBONG TEBAL: Nine passengers, including four teachers, were injured when their bus was involved in a collision with a cement-laden trailer at the North South Expressway near the Jawi toll plaza.
Teacher Chui Wai Kin, 45, whose skull was fractured, was warded at the Bukit Mertajam Hospital.
Three other teachers Mazrina Halawati Mohamad, 28, Tuan Maznah Tuan Abdul Aziz, 41, and Wan Mahani Wan Ali, 44, received outpatient treatment at Sungai Bakap Hospital.
Five others including three pupils also received treatment at the same hospital.
The teachers were leading a group of pupils from Kemaman, Trengganu, to Lang-kawi when the accident occurred at about 6am yesterday.
South Seberang Prai district traffic chief Chief Inspector Hamim Zaini Hamzah said the bus with 35 passengers and two drivers skidded and landed on its side after colliding with the trailer.
”The impact of the accident caused the bus’ spare tyre to fall off and hit a motorcyclist,” Hamim said.
He said the motorcyclist who sustained minor injuries received outpatient treatment at the Seberang Jaya Hospital.
