A sizzling salsa party, Salsa 101, will be held in Kuala Lumpur next month for enthusiasts of all ages and skill levels.

The event, to be held on June 23 at the Hilton Kuala Lumpur grand ballroom, will start as early as 5.45pm and go on until the wee hours.

It is organised by Primus Global and supported by the Cuban Embassy, Havana Estudio Kuala Lumpur, Attitude Dance Studio Singapore, Ritmo Latino Kuala Lumpur, Salsa Havana Kuala Lumpur, Union Square Singapore and Clipso Hair & Makeup Academy.

All ready: The organising team members of Salsa 101 (from left) DJ Domingo, Joanne Lee from Clipso Hair and Make up Academy, Suzanne Lee, Pedro, Baron, Pernod Ricard brand executive Cindy Tan, Salsa Sam from Havana Estudio and Simrin Sindhu.
The official TV station for the party is Channel V.

The Salsa 101 will kick off with three workshops - Introduction to Guanguanco and Body Isolation Techniques For All Levels, Rueda De Casino on Timba, and Newest Sexy Moves and Dips for Intermediate Levels.

There will also be performances by an Afro-Cuban percussion band and screening of the movie From Son to Salsa.

The night will also groove on with three international salsa deejays – DJ Domingo from Peru, DJ Juanito from Colombia and Dr Salsa from France.

The KL Open Salsa Dance competition will also take place during the event.

To fuel up the party, the Havana Club will be serving its premium cocktail rum, the Cuban Mojito to the guests.

“We want to promote salsa as a lifestyle and reach out to people of all ages,” Salsa 101 spokesman Baron Idriss said.

“In Malaysia, salsa dates way back to the late P. Ramlee’s time with all that cha cha. However, it seems to be restricted to the older people. Many young people go for hip hop and salsa is a little under represented but we believe salsa is a healthy choice and young people should also take it up,” he told a recent press conference.

Cuban ambassador Pedro Monzon Barata was also present at the event.

Barata said salsa was an exciting way to exercise and socialise.

“Salsa music is addictive and in Malaysia, salsa has advanced over the years as there are many good dancers, too,” he said.

Tickets for the party is priced at RM88 before June 23 and includes two first drinks, entry to all workshops, the Grand Party and salsa competition.

Guests also stand a chance to win exciting prizes through the lucky draw.

Tickets for walk-in guests are priced at RM98.
