STRATEGY, communication, litres of water, a little butt wiggle and a whole lot of fun were all part of the game as some 22 teams took part in Red Fm’s My Father is Stronger than Yours on a recent Sunday.

Red FM listeners whose SMS with the password were the ninth through from June 4 to 8 were eligible to participate in the exciting treasure hunt at the Sunway Lagoon theme park.

The teams, each comprising the father and three family members, competed for the grand prize of a pair of tickets to Paris from Gulf Air.

Let the race begin: The participants starting off.
The teams raced to finish 11 tasks around three main areas in Sunway Lagoon – the Amusement Park, Waters of Africa and the Wildlife Interactive Zoo.

“The teams will have to get their task stamps which are worth one point each; the entire race will last one hour and 45 minutes,” said Sunway Lagoon theme park events and entertainment manager Wong Li Li.

“So, in the end, the team that completes the tasks in the shortest time and has the most number of points wins,” she added.

It was hilarious to watch the teams trying the various rides that left them feeling nauseous – or screaming with fear, as the pirate’s ship in the Pirate's Revenge ride took a 360° turn.

At the Wildlife Interactive Zoo, the teams were required to kiss a big yellow python. This left the children trembling and the adults feeling squeamish.

“There will be a game wizard dressed up somewhere along the way and she will set out the task of counting the lockers at certain areas,” said Wong.

After the more-than-hour-long excitement, Long John Silver emerged winners and promptly declared they would not mind doing it again.

The team won two six-month memberships at Fitness First, a food hamper from Telegift worth RM300, a spa treatment by Ecoparadise worth RM900 and a digital camera from Hyundai Kah Bintang.

“It was not for the prize, actually, that we did it; it was because of the team work, excitement and the enthusiasm,” said mum Ng Kwai Ngan.

“We had our share of conflicts and disagreements but in the end, we worked it out,” said proud father Chai Khong Ngan.

“This is the best gift their dad can get from our son and our adopted son,” said Ng.

Runners-up Happy Sunday won a food hamper by Telegift worth RM250, two three-month memberships at Fitness First, a spa treatment by Ecoparadise worth RM500 and a portable CD player from Hyundai Kah Bintang.

Power Rangers came in third and walked away with a food hamper from Telegift worth RM200, two one-month memberships at Fitness First, a spa treatment by Ecoparadise worth RM210 and an MP3 player from Hyundai Kah Bintang.

The consolation prizes were food hampers worth RM150 each from Telegift, two two-week memberships at Fitness First, spa treatment by Ecoparadise worth RM70 and hairdryer from Hyundai Kah Bintang.
