About 500 invited guests turned up for the premiere of the musical sponsored by The Star.
Some of the dignitaries at the musical held at the Kuala Lumpur Performing Arts Centre (KLPac) are the Star Publications (M) Bhd executive director and group chief operating officer Datin Linda Ngiam, Singapore High Commissioner T. Jasudasen and Yayasan Budi Penyayang chief executive officer Datuk Leela Mohd Ali.
Also present were KLPac executive producer Datuk Faridah Merican, artistic director Joe Hasham and The Star group chief editor Michael Aeria.
This is one of the projects supported by The Star as part of The Star Merdeka Series – in conjunction with the country’s 50 years of Independence – to honour the contributions and sacrifices made by the late Tunku.
The cast of the musical includes Tony Eusoff, Douglas Lim, Syuk Ibrahim, Maria Yasmin, Evelyn Toh, Doreen Tang and Zamil Idris who were supported by an ensemble cast of 46 and an 18-piece orchestra (playing more than 30 original compositions).
The musical depicts the “colour, drama, excitement, anticipation, heartache, sorrow and uncertainty” that ensued after the declaration of Merdeka on Aug 31, 1957 based on actual events. The musical will run until Sept 2 at Pentas 1 of the KLPac. Showtime is at 8.30pm daily, except Sundays (3pm).
Tickets are priced at RM80, RM60, and RM40 (students, disabled and senior citizens). For enquiries, call 03-4047 9000 (KLPac), 03-2094 9400 (The Actors Studio) or visit www.klpac.com.
