Kolej Universiti TATI to offer three more courses
KEMAMAN: The Terengganu Advanced Technical Institute (TATI), which has been upgraded to university college status and is now known as Kolej Universiti TATI (TATiUC), will offer three more degree programmes next year.
TATiUC board of directors chairman Datuk Dr Abdul Latiff Awang said the new degree programmes are Chemical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering and Computer Systems Engineering.
“These courses involve high skills and will be 70% practical training and 30% theory,” he told reporters when met during TATiUC’s inaugural convocation ceremony where the appointment of its first Chancellor, Tan Sri Dr Wan Abdul Rahman Wan Yaacob, was announced by Terengganu Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Idris Jusoh here recently.
At the convocation, 226 graduates received their diplomas, 106 the Higher National Diploma (HND), 126 the Diploma Kemahiran Tinggi (Higher Skills Diploma) while four students received degrees for programmes done in collaboration between TATI and Universiti Technology Malaysia.
Dr Abdul Latiff said, with the addition of the three programmes, TATiUC was expected to increase its enrolment to more than 3,000 students by 2012 compared to current 1,200.
He added that the government had allocated RM30mil to TATiUC this year for expenditure under its second phase of expansion, from 2004 to 2010. The first phase was from 1994 to 2003.
Meanwhile, Nik Muhammad Nasri Nik Kamaluddin, 21, who was named the best overall student, said he was proud to receive the honour at TATiUC’s debut convocation.
Nik Muhammad Nasri, who was also the top student in the HND programme in Automotive Engineering, said he was waiting for an offer to pursue further studies in the Britain.
“I did not follow any special study recipe. I disciplined myself and worked hard,” said the second of four siblings, whose family lives in Taman Tun Dr Ismail, Kuala Lumpur. – Bernama
