A touch of beauty at club’s installation night

By JADE CHAN

FIONA Zuzartee has fond memories of her stint at her school’s Interact Club, where she even served as the club’s community service director during her final year at SMK TTDI.

When asked which was the most memorable, she said: “It was during our International Understanding Night. It nearly turned out to be a flop, but we made the best out of the worst situation possible.

“But at the end of the day, everyone came together, had fun and raised funds for charity.”

Former Interactor: Zuzartee was the event ambassador at the Rotaract Club of Advance Tertiary College’s charter celebration and first installation charity banquet. The event also marked her first public appearance after her crowning.

The Miss Malaysia-Indian Global 2008 winner was speaking at the Rotaract Club of Advance Tertiary College’s (ATC) charter celebration and first installation charity banquet, which marked her first public appearance after her crowning.

“I was nervous about giving my speech. The preparations were done the night before, but I didn’t get to memorise the whole thing.

“Luckily, I was able to get the key points,” said Zuzartee, who was also the event’s ambassador.

Rotary International District 3300 district governor Dr Rajindar Singh welcomed the club into the Rotary family and hoped it would grow from strength to strength in years to come.

Event organising chairman Chris De Cruz said the committee had approached the people at Best Western Premier Seri Pacific Hotel KL with their idea of combining their installation night with a charity element.

“The hotel was keen on our idea and became the event partner. Part of the event’s proceeds will go to two homes - Rumah Chrestus and Rumah Nur Salam, which were adopted by our club and the hotel respectively.

“The children from each home received some duit raya and a goodie bag, courtesy of the hotel and various sponsors. Our college also sponsored some cash to each home,” said De Cruz.

“We adopted Rumah Chrestus, a foster home in Cheras, as our community service project.

“Our members visit the children on a regular basis and give them tuition, take them out for McDonald’s, clean up the home - basically spend time with them,” he said.
