Assemblyman wants more allocation on infrastructure in MPSJ budget

Infrastructure is the first thing that Subang Jaya assemblyman Hannah Yeoh wants the Subang Jaya Municipal Council (MPSJ) to focus on in the MPSJ budget for 2009 to 2010.

Yeoh said the council should look into providing better infrastructure for Subang Jaya residents.

Need to be improved: Yeoh wants the council to look at providing a better trading environment for the kiosk operators.

She said she had received various complaints from USJ1 residents regarding the poor infrastructure in the area.

“There are projects coming up in USJ1 but there is only one main access road. Something has to be done to ease the traffic congestion,” said Yeoh.

She added that areas like Taipan USJ10 and SS15 were also in need of more carparks.

Yeoh said a pedestrian bridge should be built at Persiaran Tujuan at SS19 and USJ 6 near the bus hub, where many accidents had been reported.

She also hoped the council would look into improving the kiosks in Subang Jaya and provide a better trading environment for the hawkers.

“When it rains, it gets wet as the roofs of the kiosks are not wide enough,” she said.

Yeoh also requested the council to look into public toilets in parks and for proper bins with lids placed near flats and night markets.

“Many senior citizens exercise in the park and it’s inconvenient for them to rush home to use the toilet.

“With toilets in the park, it will be easier for them.

“As for proper bins, I know they are expensive and the council often feels these bins should be provided by the developer or a Joint Management Body (JMB), but the fact is, most of the JMB accounts are in deficit.

“The residents pay assessment rates so it’s the council’s responsibility to help them,” she said.

Yeoh also expressed her concern over the rising dengue problems in Subang Jaya.

“At present, fogging can only be done at areas where dengue cases are reported.

“Requests for fogging will not be entertained if there is no dengue history.

“However, as Subang Jaya is a dengue hot spot MPSJ should allocate sufficient funds to address this problem,” she said.

Yeoh also highlighted the fact that bulk of the budget was allocated for service and supply.

“What if a contract is signed but the service is not satisfying?

“We often see potholes being filled, only for it to recur.

“To make sure the services are of good quality, the council should supervise the contract and monitor the services,” she said.
