Illegal gambling business busted

KUANTAN: Police scored a major success in crippling illegal gambling activities around here with the arrest of 86 people and seizure of 62 computer sets worth some RM186,000.
Kuantan OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Jasmani Yusoff said all the suspects and their equipment were seized during month-long raids since Oct 9.
He said the latest arrest took place in a cybercafe in Jalan Besar, Gambang where 14 people, aged between 20 and 50, were detained at about 10.30pm last Wednesday.
“Two of the suspects were workers manning the centre while the rest were customers,” he said.
Busted: Some of the computer sets used for the gambling activities confiscated by the Kuantan police in various raids. He added that police also seized RM1,000 in cash from the suspects. Mohd Jasmani said his officers from the anti-gambling, secret society and vice unit had earlier detained three suspects and seized a computer set at another cybercafe in Gambang.
He said various other raids in Kuantan saw the arrests of 55 people and seizure of 38 computers while in Gebeng, there were 14 arrests and nine computers confiscated.
“All the premises owners will be investigated under Section 4(1)(b) of Common Gaming House Act 1953.
The offenders will face a jail term of up to three years or a fine not exceeding RM50,000 or both, if convicted, and might have their licences revoked.
