IN a glitzy affair, the Pavilion Kuala Lumpur, was officially launched by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Abdullah Ahmad Badawi yesterday.
Malay, Indian, and Chinese drums greeted the Prime Minister and his wife as they walked through the doors lined with 160 ushers dressed in various Malaysian cultural costumes.
Since its soft opening in September 2007 and although new on the shopping scene, the upmarket Pavilion KL has already received the Most Magical Mall Award in the Best Decorated Mall contest in conjunction with the Malaysia Year End Sale 2007.
The RM3bil Pavilion KL, which is located in the heart of Bukit Bintang, spans 1.37mil sq feet. It has seven retail levels, with 450 shops ranging from fashion to home furnishing and entertainment to culinary delights.
About 25% of Pavilion KL's tenants represent debut international brands.
Chairman of Urusharta Cemerlang Sdn Bhd Tan Sri Zainol Mahmood in his speech described Pavilion KL as the “gold in the golden triangle”.
He said it served as a pivotal retail and tourism link that joins previously separated areas of Bukit Bintang and Kuala Lumpur City Centre, creating a single spectacular shopping and tourist haven in the league of New York's 5th Avenue, Tokyo's Ginza or Singapore's Orchard Road.

Impressive: The doorways of Pavilion Kuala Lumpur was lined with people wearing the different cultural costumes of Malaysia to welcome and give a special red carpet greeting to the Prime Minister and his wife at the launch. |
