RM400,000 for associations, NGOs
ALOR STAR: The Kedah Government has made a RM400,000 allocation to dozens of Chinese-based associations and NGOs in the state.
Incumbent Kota Darul Aman assemblyman Datuk Chong Itt Chew, who disbursed the funds yesterday, said the money was from last year’s allocation.
“This year’s allocation of RM400,000 will be given out by June or July,” the state executive councillor added.
Thanking Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mahdzir Khalid for the annual allocation, Chong, who is state MCA secretary, said the state gave more money for Chinese education.
He said RM1.25mil was allocated to 90 Chinese primary and seven Chinese secondary schools in the state.
“This is the first time so much money has been given to Chinese schools here,” said Chong, who is defending the Kota Darul Aman state seat.
He appealed to the Chinese community to show their support to the MB and Barisan Nasional in the general election so that development efforts could continue undeterred.
On his campaign, Chong said it was progressing smoothly.
The Kota Darul Aman seat, which is one of the four state seats held by the MCA in Kedah, is under the Alor Star parliamentary constituency which is being contested by MCA incumbent Datuk Chor Chee Heung.
Chong believed that Chor and him would receive the people’s support and be re-elected.
