Allaying a Seri Delima concern
MCA representatives will meet property owners in Seri Delima who are worried that their 99-year leasehold status will expire in 30 to 40 years to help them solve their problem.
Barisan Nasional candidate for the Seri Delima state seat, Loh Nam Hooi, said the value of these properties had decreased recently, causing concern among the owners.
“I will meet the owners of such leasehold properties in Seri Delima soon together with Datuk Koay Kar Huah, who is running for the Bukit Gelugor parliamentary seat.
“We will explain to them how we can help them to get the leasehold status of the land extended,” he told The Star while campaigning in Taman Tun Sardon, Penang, yesterday.
On the traffic congestion in Seri Delima, Loh said the matter had to be understood and tackled within the context of the traffic problem in Penang.
“There is no use in just upgrading the roads in Seri Delima or in Jalan Mesjid Negri alone.
“We will just be shifting the bottleneck to somewhere else.
“This is why I emphasise that an assemblyman needs to be involved in the planning for the well-being of the state and not just attend to the issues of his constituency alone,” he added.
Koay, speaking at a function in Air Itam, said that he had serviced the Seri Delima area when it was under the Bukit Gelugor state constituency prior to the 2004 general election.
“I am familiar with the problems there as I had served as the Bukit Gelugor assemblyman from 1995 to 2004,” he said at the Happy and Peaceful Family Day gathering organised by the Kampung Tengah Umno Wanita branch.
Koay said that if elected as MP, he would have more allocation and power to get problems in Kampung Tengah resolved.
