Free tuition classes

POOR students of Taman Seruling Emas in Nibong Tebal, Penang, will soon be able to have free tuition classes, thanks to incumbent Sungai Ba-kap assemblyman Datuk Seri Ab-dul Rashid Abdullah.

Abdul Rashid, 58, who is also Penang deputy chief minister, also pledged to allocate RM5,000 for tents that the people could use for their functions.

In addition, he said he would furnish the community hall with basic amenities.

He agreed to provide these faci-lities following a request by the residents when speaking at a ga-thering there on Monday.

Abdul Rashid said that he had been serving the people “from day one” and was happy to provide them with the facilities needed. He also said that he treated all ra-ces the same “because we need to live together and develop.”

“All schools, regardless of medium of instruction, are treated the same and where places of worships were needed, they were provided for,” he said to the al-most all-Indian crowd.

Also present to support Abdul Rashid were members of the MIC, People’s Progressive Party (PPP) and Indian Progressive Front.

Abdul Rashid also thanked the people for having voted him for the past two terms.

“Because of your votes in 2004, I was entrusted to be the deputy chief minister,” he said.

Speaking to The Star later, Abdul Rashid said he was keen to serve another term as the de-puty chief minister if the Barisan Nasional retained the state in the elections.
