Solution to drainage problems

MUAR: Incumbent Muar MP Razali Ibrahim was about to take a break from his campaign trail recently when a woman approached him, lamenting about the decade-long drainage problems in the constituency.

The Barisan Nasional candidate was about to sip his coffee – the drink was complemented by a plate of mee bandung and satay - at a shop in Jalan Abdullah when Dolly Wong went near him and related to him the problems.

Razali immediately set aside his food and listened attentively to the elderly woman who lives in Taman Khalidi Baru near Jalan Joned here.

The woman grumbled that she had complained about the problems twice – 10 years ago and five years ago – but nothing was done.

Assuring: Razali (second from left) talking to Dolly Wong from Taman Khalidi Baru while Maharani state seat candidate Mohd Ismail (right) looks on.

Razali said he would look into the complaints and submit a request to the Muar Municipal Council to resolve the problem as soon as possible.

He told Wong that most problems faced by residents in most towns were under the jurisdiction of the local government and many residents here also complained about poor drainage in Bandar Maharani.

After the woman left, he was heard asking Datuk Mohd Ismail Mohd Shah, the Maharani state seat candidate for Barisan and Muar Umno division chairman, to get the municipal council to give importance to improving drainage in the town.

He said in certain parts of the town the drains were filled with hardened sludge, which clogged them and prevented water from flowing, adding that they were also breeding grounds for mosquitoes.
