JPJ issued 15,000 summonses


BUTTERWORTH: The state Road Transport Department (JPJ) has issued 15,043 summonses for 17,008 offen-ces detected during the first four months of this year.

State JPJ director Hassan Yaccob said that among those fined were 3,696 drivers who were caught without valid licences, 935 with expired licences and 99 with false licences.

He said 2,464 vehicles with expired road taxes, 2,504 vehicles without road taxes and 20 vehicles with fake road taxes were detected and compounds issued to owners.

Some122 vehicle owners were also fined for modifying their vehicles’ registration number plates while 7,168 vehicles with various offences were compounded.

Hassan was speaking to reporters at the Ops Pengarah 8 carried out at the Sungai Nyior toll plaza here on Friday.

He said 500 vehicles were checked during the operation, of which 95 were compounded for various offen-ces while 83 cars, motorcycles and heavy vehicles were seized to facilitate investigations.
