A challenge to save petrol

By CHOONG MEK ZHIN

PETROL vouchers for fuel to travel over a million kilometres are up for grabs every week in conjunction with the Shell FuelSave Challenge launched by Shell in its global initiative to help motorists learn how to save fuel.

“A purchase of RM30 of any Shell fuel, a 31/4L pack of Shell Helix or a 5L pack of Shell Rimula will entitle customers to submit a contest entry. There will be 1,500km worth of petrol vouchers for 700 weekly winners while three more will receive the grand prizes of bigger value vouchers as well as cash prizes,” Shell national sales manager Shairan Huzani Hussain said.

Shairan added that the contest would run for 11 weeks, starting on May 13 and ending on July 28.

“Accumulated receipts will also be accepted. This is so that even motorcyclists, who do not usually purchase RM30 worth of petrol at one go, can participate in the contest. All contest forms must be accompanied by the original purchase receipts,” Shairan said.

All prizes will be redeemed through the BonusLink loyalty programme and non-card holders who win will automatically be given membership.

Shell Citibank credit card users who use their cards at the petrol stations will receive two times the winnings, with the extra credited into their card account.

In addition to the contest, Shell is also looking for 300 drivers in the country to participate in its FuelSave Challenge.

“In this eight-week challenge, participants will drive for the first four weeks as they normally do. Then they will attend a training session to learn ways in which they can save fuel before again driving for four weeks, applying what they have learnt,” Shell Malaysia managing director Datuk Mohzani Abdul Wahab said.

He added that Shell Super Fuel Economy Formula had already proven its capability to save the precious commodity and had a Guinness World Record to prove it, courtesy of the Taylors' success story of travelling around the world on 24 tanks of the fuel.

“Anyone can lessen the usage of petrol and cut costs with the economy formula and Shell FuelSave tips. If we were to save 10% of the fuel we use, around 170 billion litres of it could be saved each year – that is equal to almost twice the amount of bottled water the world drinks in a year,” Mohzani said.
