Aid for 5,000 needy families
IPOH: The Perak Government has allocated RM1mil worth of rice, sugar, oil and cash to be distributed to some 5,000 hardcore poor families in the state.
Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mo-hammad Nizar Jamaluddin said this was to lessen the burden faced by the poor in view of the escalating price of goods.
It is also in line with the state governments stand on prioritising welfare for the people.
Those living below the poverty line are now at a loss because of the increasing prices of goods worldwide.
We hope that by doing this, it can help to allay some of their burden, he told a press confe-rence here yesterday.
Nizar added that no one could be blamed for the rising prices of goods as it was a global pheno-menon.
However, he urged people to come together and help those in need.
At these trying times, I appeal to corporations or individuals to come forward to help those living below the poverty line, he said.
He added that these groups could go through the state financial officer to channel aid to the poor.
Nizar said that the RM1mil allocation would be given to the families over a week with each family receiving RM100, 30kg of rice, 5kg of sugar and 2kg of oil.
The eligible families are those with a monthly income below RM420.
