Event celebrates Buddhist cultures from various countries
KOREAN dances and acrobatic shows from China would be among the highlights at the Buddhist Maha Viharas Wesak Day Cultural Night on Saturday .
Ven K. Sri Dhammaratana Maha Nayaka Thera said the event had always been part of the temples Wesak celebrations and he plans to make it a yearly event.
Most of the younger generation have forgotten their own culture and have focused on other activities,
We must try our best to continue our cultural traditions and practices especially in the fast-paced modern society, Dhammaratana said.
He said the show, which will be held at the temple grounds in Brickfields, Kuala Lumpur, will see various performances by dance troupes from Sri Lanka, India, Nepal, Thailand and Japan.
Dhammaratana hopes it would be able to serve as a reminder to the community at large of their cultures and values.
The temples Wesak Day celebrations will begin this weekend with a blessing service, meditation, blood donation campaign and the hoisting of the Buddhist Flag on Monday.
We want to bring together a mix of cultural, welfare, social and religious aspects during this auspicious day for Buddhists, he said Dhammaratana.
Admission for the two-hour show, which begins at 7.30pm, is free. For details, call 03-2274 1141.
